Social media key in boosting business awareness

Social media have taken the world by storm.

Blogs became extremely popular around 2004 because they were easy to set up, free and user-friendly. They allowed individuals and companies to gain a voice in the online world. Then MySpace showed up, followed by Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

All of these social media outlets exploded because they connect people, and they are free. I must say that I did not “get it” when I first heard about these new forms of communication. When I heard about Twitter, I was completely confused. I had no idea why anyone would care about what I was doing – in messages of 140 characters or less. Even more, I thought many of the “tweets” (Twitter updates) were completely senseless – messages like “I just walked three steps.”
